|Welcome! My name is Nathan Crystal. I am a law professor and a lawyer. Currently, I am at the Charleston School of Law in South Carolina. Before coming to Charleston I taught for 32 years at the University of South Carolina School of Law. Prior to that, I was a teaching fellow at Harvard Law School.
My primary areas of interest are Contracts and Professional Responsibility. If you look at my resume or the Internet you will see I am the author or co-author of several books, both on Contracts and Professional Responsibility, that have been adopted by law schools throughout the U.S. I have written many articles in law reviews and professional journals, given lectures and presented papers at over 100 academic and professional meetings worldwide, and served as a consulting or testifying expert for lawyers and law firms on issues of professional responsibility and contract law.
What you will not find, however, is why I have decided to create my own site. I do not intend for this site to be a database for research. Instead, I see the site as simply an occasion for establishing contacts and exchanging ideas with scholars and legal professionals, both nationally and internationally.
|I hope you might see this site as if you would casually meet me at a party, a dinner, a coffee break during a conference, or while playing golf (which I adore). We strike up a conversation. I offer my views; I hear yours — as I do with my current students, former students, colleagues, and my wife. You are welcome to send your thoughts to firstname.lastname@example.org.
In this site you will find references to my books and articles. Two warnings on those publications: (1) if you want to reproduce them, please let me know. I will authorize it for scholarly purposes, but please ask anyway. (2) The articles are re-published in this site as they were at the time of their original publications. There is no updating. In the section “News,” you might also find my day-by-day thoughts on contracts and ethics. They do not aim to be a long-lasting contribution to the field. They are not law review articles.
There is also a newsletter. If you wish to register, click the link “Newsletter Subscription” on the right side of the page. Please provide your name, affiliation, and address. If you register, you will receive our newsletter in your email.
What else? Thank you for being here. I hope you will enjoy!
